Information and advice including herd health planning and vaccinations

Herd Health Planning

We can provide health plans compliant with the British Cattle Veterinary association and the Red Tractor standards. We believe that a properly prepared health plan is so much more than a box ticking exercise to satisfy an inspector. Our health plans are designed to be a valuable aid to disease prevention on farm in the dairy, beef and sheep sectors.

Vaccines

Every farm has a different set of endemic diseases, different management systems and different biosecurity threats.  It is important that a vaccination program is prepared for that individual farm to prevent disease. All of our vets are keen to prepare a tailored vaccine program for your farm and advise on their safe use and storage. All vaccines are available at extremely competitive prices

Mastitis

Mastitis is an extremely complex disease with no two farms having identical problems.  We believe that mastitis control is so much more than just providing mastitis tubes, this is a disease requiring a comprehensive understanding of the workings of an individual farm. Our vets are trained in the DairyCo mastitis control program and can provide a tailored mastitis control plan for your farm.

Medicine Supply

Most medicines are available on request or can be ordered in within 24 hours. All branches can act as pick up points for your order. As part of your annual health plan, we will pre-authorise an appropriate selection and quantity of medicines to deal with ongoing and predictable health issues. This will speed up medicine ordering and will allow us to monitor ongoing antibiotic use. A change of medicine requirement patterns on a farm can be a valuable tool in early detection of disease. All medicines are extremely competitively priced and as part of our commitment to reducing antibiotic usage on farm, we will advise on their safe and proper use.

Fertility

We consider the routine fertility visit to be the cornerstone of good on farm fertility management. Each dairy farm has an allocated vet with a back up to cover holidays. That way, a good working knowledge of the farm is acquired and a good working relationship established. All our vets are experienced in fertility management on farm and have access to all the modern aids including ultrasound and computer back up. Regular interherd and herd companion results can be produced to aid in monitoring and trouble shooting when problems occur.  Our fertility visits can be tailored to match the specific needs of your farm.

Lameness

Lameness is a costly problem on many farms. We are keen to do more than just trim affected cows’ feet. An understanding of how cows go lame is vital to prevent lameness. Our vets are fully trained to provide excellent and practical advice on management systems that can dramatically improve lameness rates.
